- INDIVIDUAL has a variety of substrates/materials to choose from, including Latex, Nitrile, Nitrile Blend Vinyl, and Polyethylene.
What is the difference between the different glove materials/substrates?
- Nitrile gloves are a versatile glove option. They can be used for handling chemicals, cleaning, medical tasks when they are exam grade, food handling with proper certification, industrial use, and more.
- Latex gloves, when allergies aren't a concern, are great for tasks where high dexterity is needed, including painting, cleaning, automotive repair, food handling, and more.
- Vinyl gloves are suitable for low-risk tasks such as food handling and general cleaning
- Polyethylene gloves are an economical choice for food prep and light-duty applications
Are your gloves powder-free?
- Most INDIVIDUAL gloves are powder-free, but INDIVIDUAL does offer some powdered glove options.
Glove Uses
What is the best type of glove for handling chemicals?
- Each substrate has different properties. The thickness of the gloves also plays a role. Please consult your BradyPLUS sales team for specific product information and their chemical resistance properties. For general information about the properties of the chemical resistance of different substrates, click to view a chemical resistance chart.
Are your gloves safe for food handling?
- INDIVIDUAL has nitrile, vinyl, latex, and poly gloves that comply with FDA rules for food handling. Consult your BradyPLUS representative to find the right glove for your unique needs.
Can your gloves be used for medical purposes?
- INDIVIDUAL has exam-grade gloves that meet the requirements for use for medical purposes.
What are exam-grade gloves and general-purpose gloves?
- Exam-grade gloves differ from general-purpose gloves in that they have been certified to meet a set of FDA regulations. The FDA website has additional information about these certifications (https://www.fda.gov/medical-devices/personal-protective-equipment-infection-control/medical-gloves).
- General-purpose gloves are for non-medical or healthcare applications. They are the most common glove found in the marketplace, and popular uses include foodservice, packaging, automotive, painting, and health & beauty. General-purpose gloves must meet FDA requirements for food contact to be used for foodservice.
Safety + Usage
Can disposable gloves and other PPE be reused?
- No. INDIVIDUAL disposable gloves and PPE are single-use products only.
Do disposable gloves help protect against viruses and bacteria?
- Yes, when used properly, INDIVIDUAL exam-grade gloves can help provide a barrier against viruses and bacteria. Proper use, including donning and doffing, as well as handwashing, is essential.
How do you properly put on (don) and take off (doff) disposable gloves?
- Proper donning and doffing of gloves is critical to the effectiveness of gloves. Here are step-by-step instructions:
- Donning gloves
- Hand hygiene: Wash and dry your hands thoroughly or use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer. Ensure your hands are completely dry before proceeding.
- Inspect the gloves: Remove the gloves from the box and inspect them for any tears or damage.
- Put on the first glove: Hold the glove by the cuff (the edge that goes around your wrist). Slide one hand into the glove.
- Put on the second glove: Use your now-gloved hand to pick up the second glove by the cuff. Slide your other hand into the second glove.
- Adjust for fit: Adjust both gloves so the cuffs cover your wrists. Avoid touching the exterior (outside) of the gloves with your bare skin once they are on.
- Doffing gloves
- Grasp the cuff: Using one gloved hand, pinch the outside of the other glove near the cuff (at the wrist).
- Peel off first glove: Pull the pinched glove off your hand, turning it inside out as you remove it.
- Hold the dirty glove: Keep the removed, inside-out glove bunched up in the palm of your still-gloved hand.
- Remove the second glove: Slide two fingers of your bare hand under the cuff of the remaining glove. Be careful not to touch the outside of the dirty glove.
- Peel off the second glove: Pull the second glove off, turning it inside out. This will wrap the first, already removed glove inside the second one, creating a clean bundle.
- Dispose: Immediately place the bundle of gloves into the appropriate trash receptacle.
- Final hand hygiene: Wash and dry your hands thoroughly or use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer right away.
What glove sizes are available, and how do I choose the right fit?
- The sizes available depend on the specific glove. INDIVIDUAL offers sizes small to double-extra-large in most styles. Getting the correct size is crucial and encourages team use. Disposable gloves that are too large can be uncomfortable, difficult to use, and even hazardous. Gloves that are too small are uncomfortable, binding, and cause hand fatigue.
- Measurements should be taken around the thickest part of the hand, not including the thumb—click here to learn more
What bouffant and hairnet sizes are available, and how do I choose the right fit?
- The sizes offered depend on the item, but in general INDIVIDUAL offers three sizes: 21”, 24”, and 28”. The primary purpose of these hair coverings is to contain a person’s hair. The amount of hair a person has will determine the size of the bouffant or hairnet required. A bouffant cap or hairnet should fit tightly but comfortably above the ears, across the forehead, and contain all the person’s hair. Check to make sure the elastic band isn’t strained. If it is too small, hair will fall out of the bottom or sides of the cap. It will also be uncomfortably tight. If it is too large, the cap will not sit securely on the person’s head.
How do I ensure my employees are using the right gloves for the job?
- Many factors help determine the right glove to choose. Often, multiple types of gloves will work for a given task. Your local BradyPLUS professional can guide you to the right choice for your team. The tasks being completed by your team are a key factor in determining the right gloves. Here are a few general guidelines:
- Nitrile gloves are a versatile glove option. They can be used for handling chemicals, cleaning, medical tasks when they are exam grade, food handling with proper certification, industrial use, and more.
- Latex gloves, when allergies aren’t a concern, are great for tasks where high dexterity is needed, including painting, cleaning, automotive repair, food handling, and more.
- Vinyl gloves are suitable for low-risk tasks such as food handling and general cleaning.
- Polyethylene gloves are an economical choice for food prep and light-duty applications.
How do I store disposable gloves to maintain their quality?
- Gloves should be stored in a cool, dry environment. Extreme temperatures and humidity can damage gloves. Gloves should be kept in their original box until they are ready to use. Avoid storing in direct sunlight and UV rays from fluorescent lights.
Can your PPE be used in a sterile environment?
- No, INDIVIDUAL doesn’t currently offer PPE that can be used in a sterile setting.
